BIG GOOD NEWS: New Horizons Board Launches New Non-Profit, Small "Zones of Peace" Inc.

This is such a big WOW for me and for the New Horizons Support Network, Inc.!  OMG!! So exciting!

While I was away fighting for the life of my right eye, my Beloved New Horizons Board of Directors team was not only supporting me through my ordeals but was also moving our  programs and projects ahead.  

Some of that motion was going in to establishing a second non-profit 501 C (3) organization, Small "Zones Of Peace" Inc., as the offspring of our original New Horizons.

Yippee!

As you can see from the graphic below, we had already been declaring Small "Zones Of Peace"(ZOP)  to be the main initiative/"project" of New Horizons. However, as it turned out, ZOP needed more space for "herself" for growing. 

So we made her into her own legal status.

We want to tell you all about our new girl. 

There is quite a lot to say as we have been developing what is to now take shape within two non-profits. I'm going to be telling you as much about the happenings as I can at this point with much still to be determined at this early stage.

However, I still tire easily these days having had, not only one emergency surgery,  November 21, but an earlier one on October 19, so please grant me your patience with this unfolding tale I have for you about what's happening now at New Horizons/Small "Zones Of Peace and what lies ahead.

A The main areas of operation of ZOP, initially will include:

• Getting signed "Expanded" Pro-Truth Pledges;
• Fundraising which will soon include a New Horizons/ZOP ebay store and, of course, paypal access for items we will be selling such as my updated Surviving Addictions manuscript, working title Surviving The U.S.A., Circa 2020;
• Super Sleuth'd Coaching and Consulting with Anastasia

A We haven't got our full blueprint yet, nor will we ever all on our own. That's why we need you to help us develop our project design and begin putting it into motion! 

We do know, however, that most, if not all, Truth Or Dare Movement projects and programs will be transitioned over to the direction and management of ZOP.

Anastasia Rosen-Jones, Beloved Executive Director, New Horizons Support Network, Inc. underwent emergency surgical removal of her damaged right eye today. She is recovering quietly and well at this time but she will be cutting back her work hours significantly through the end of the year.

Commentary By Anastasia: How I Put What Matters To Me Into Motion

Why the rush to get these words up here today?

Because Anastasia has a commitment to the New Horizons Board of Directors to post one blog per week on our two main, New Horizons-sponsored sites, this one and Anastasia the Storyteller, and she almost didn't make it for September!

Check your clocks. It's after six on September's last day.

New Horizons Board Member, Lynn Cullather, and I got into a discussion yesterday on the subject of what is pushing me to carry this plan forward, originating with me, the Truth Or Dare Movement: Destination Capitol Hill.

Lynn wondered if what I was after was changing the world. 

Not hardly, said I! 

“No such gigantic dream like that for me,” I asserted, as I went on to share what I thought motivates me.

Here are a few of my thoughts on the matter.

• For me truth-seeking, truth-telling and truth-listening bring order out of chaos, peace out of disruption.  That makes them of the highest order, as the alternative is no option at all.

Take a look at how important Congress is making truth-telling or not as a value, enough for the topic to take over most things there these days. 

By the time the drama of Trump's impeachment is resolved, we will all have had plenty of opportunity to see how the importance of truth-telling or the absence thereof can play out, on as gigantic a stage as our country can afford us.

What could be bigger, for us, than our three main branches of government, Congress, the Office of the President and the courts?

Might be an ideal time for wise citizens to start exploring the broader implications of truth in their personal lives, relationships and close-by communities, a time for pointing the finger of expected transparency, accountability and day-to-day integrity principles as a topmost practice in our own lives.

• With this in mind, I realize that I/we at New Horizons have, along with the strong foundations upon which our organization operates internally, the expertise, skills and tools to, at least, offer to contribute what I/we can to the social and political chaos now running rampant throughout our country through the package of what our Truth Or Dare Movement can provide, once up and fully operational.

I know, as the original architect of our movement that the components of which it is comprised, not only make my life work remarkably well, but that these elements have also made an important contribution to enhancing the lives of hundreds, possibly thousands of others over the past forty-five years of their service.  

We have even saved a good hand full of lives in those years.

Our Truth Or Dare GAME has been at the forefront of these gains since its inception in 1976. 

So why not, at least, make our best effort to offer what we have that has been tried and found true, with the hope of improvement where there is upset, Capitol Hill among other places, especially through lies, perceived or actual, being the cornerstone of greatest importance at this time.

Again the words of Charles Krauthammer ring in my ears.

You’re betraying your whole life if you don’t say what you think – and you don’t say it honestly and bluntly.

• We are after accomplishing the giving of what we have, in full measure, to the best of our abilities, believing that our Truth Or Dare Movement might, minimally, make a small dent by, at least, 
• furthering discussions on the topic of truth. 
• 
  
• If meaningful conversation is all we accomplish, it might just be something to prime the flames of change.

Another truth proclaimed in the Jewish High Holiday prayers, now being practiced, suggests that it is asked of us, if we are to be the best of ourselves that –

“We must begin with ourselves, but not end with ourselves.”

• Again New Horizons Truth Or Dare Movement can be an enhanced pathway for doing this which is why, at this time, we are doing everything we can to boost Truth Or Dare capabilities in each and every one of our board members, for starters.  In time, hopefully, they will be able to carry our brand of impact through skillfulness out to others in ways that could potentially make a modicum of difference, potentially.

In fact, among our board members we are already seeing evidence of this from the fruits of our efforts in big and small ways, now that our revitalized Truth Or Dare GAME and its associated GAME community has passed its one year anniversary date, just last week.

New Horizons Truth Or Dare Movement Goes Public

After weeks of planning and anticipation, New Horizons Support Network, Inc’s Executive Director, Anastasia Rosen-Jones, and long-time Board Member, Sue deVeer found themselves, on Thursday, September 12, at the display table they had been carefully preparing for weeks, set up and ready to welcome potentially interested students attending the Hood College Community Volunteer And Internship Fair.

The fair, specially designed to match students and local non-profit organizations for cooperative service activities, would enable them on this day, to carry out dual intentions: to publicly convey the message of their Truth Or Dare Movement to what they hoped would be enthusiastic attendees of the fair while more privately celebrating what their combined visionary perspectives had been conjuring up for the past six months or so.

Depicting the message they most wanted to convey that something big and bold was happening at New Horizons and all were invited, a display board surrounded by information handouts aided Anastasia and Sue in being able to summarily describe and tell the story of what New Horizons Truth or Dare Movement: Destination Capitol Hill intends and has in store for participants.

First they wanted to invite people to sign their “expanded” Pro-Truth Pledge that would officially engage willing signees to assert a steadfast commitment to making truth-telling an essential part of daily living while concurrently insisting that others do the same or face consequences, especially those in elected leadership positions. 

Next they wanted to announce plans, already in motion, to carry their message by 2021 to Capitol Hill along with a variety of educational seminars focused on exploring questions New Horizons has identified as pertinent such as: Why tell the truth?, When do you tell the truth?, How do you tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?, When is it ok to not tell the truth?.

Finally New Horizons aspires to teach others the art of truth-telling and truth-listening in their signature interactive, personal and community development program, the Truth Or Dare GAME, originally established by New Horizons in Montgomery County in 1976!

Hood College has been identified as the location for New Horizons Truth Or Dare Movement pilot program, intended to be the testing and developing site for a project that plans to expand next year to other campus communities. As New Horizons’ Truth Or Dare Movement gathers student momentum throughout the Washington, D.C. region, organizers are preparing for an advancement on Capitol Hill after next year’s presidential election campaigns have been put to bed with a newly elected or reelected inhabitant of 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue installed.

As it turned out the display board and handouts did what they were intended to do, serving as a mini-presentation for the main aspects of New Horizons ambitious Truth Or Dare Movement. 

Explaining their timely topic, truth telling, became a hot item for discussions by Anastasia and Sue with the fair’s student attendees keeping them on their toes throughout the event as students asked questions and replied with enthusiastic comments of their own thinking. Even students who were not interested in volunteering or interning seemed eager to know more about the scope of the Pro-Truth Pledge and the Movement itself.

An added highlight of the day was the networking that also arose for Anastasia and Sue with representatives of other non-profit organizations, some of whom signed the pledge. And, of course, the hoped for outcome of the Truth Or Dare Movement project was realized for that day attracting some very talented student volunteers and interns who in the week following the fair are already beginning to join with New Horizons to begin creating an on-campus Pro-Truth Pledge signing campaign and a variety of events and seminars now being scheduled for the Fall and Spring semesters.

Mission accomplished! 

The first step of New Horizons Truth Or Dare Movement plan, Hood College as the initial pilot project, has now been launched!

Truth Or Dare Movement: Next Steps 

(And a background story about our Truth Or Dare Movement Poster Girl to help fill in some gaps and make our forthcoming agenda more meaningful, on a human level.)

Anastasia Rosen-Jones (formerly Marcia E. Rosen), New Horizons Executive Director, did not know if she would ever be able to return to Rockville that day in March, 2003 she shut her private practice office door for the last time at 809 Veirs Mill Road. She was heading into eye surgery #7 of the past five years, praying that the legal blindness she had been living with since Labor Day, 1998 would be lifted and gone forever. 

But she had no guarantees. She had, after all, been facing the challenges of threatened blindness from a hereditary eye disease, keratoconus, defined as a cone-shaped deformity of the cornea, since she had been a junior in college.

But now, she is ready to return! 

Not exactly to what had been the Rockville Professional Building, located on Veirs Mill and Norbeck Roads, as the building has been torn down and replaced by townhouses.

But a coming back to many of the things that mattered most to her in the Washington area since she moved here in 1961, the young bride of her high school sweetheart, from whom she was divorced decades ago.

With satellite offices in Bethesda and Frederick and a home office that is part of the New Horizons Harpers Ferry Retreat Center from where she regularly works and lives, Ms. Rosen-Jones, as Executive Director of the New Horizons Support Network, Inc., a non-profit, is at last ready for her return.

And with this re-entry, surprise, surprise -- Anastasia is now setting her “sights’ on a coming back to her even earlier stomping grounds, the heart of Washington and our national political scene. 

This time, however, she will not be heading the U.S. “Male” Service, known to be the “original” executive reminder and gift shopping service, catering to Washington’s elite, nor will she be identified as a Nancy Sinatra look-alike these many decades after her days as a celebrity entrepreneur in Washington.

Instead Anastasia will be leading the way forth to realize a vision she imagined as far back as 1985, taking New Horizons signature program, the Truth Or Dare GAME, originally called the “Discount Derby,” to Capitol Hill with an intent to transform the dark side of it, as completely as she can, using New Horizons tried and true GAME strategies to achieve this.

To accomplish this daring feat, Anastasia is supported by her devoted and energetic New Horizons Board of Directors who are actively behind her in launching the forthcoming New Horizons Truth Or Dare Movement: Destination Capitol Hill and joined by a budding collaboration with the global Pro-Truth Pledge Movement.

New Horizons Support Network, Inc. is a 501 C (3), non-profit organization, offering programs designed to teach community development and violence-prevention skills and strategies through the training and support model of its “Small Zones of Peace” Project initiative.

Now in the process of contributing these organizational strengths to the development of a nationwide Truth Or Dare Movement that presently incorporates: The Truth Or Dare GAME, the online To Lie Or Not To Lie Radio Show series and the Pro-Truth Pledge, Ms. Rosen-Jones is presently leading New Horizons' effort to build a regional network of troops to take on Capitol Hill.

The story of the original Possible Society In Motion Radio Show program goes like this --

The original Possible Society In Motion Radio Show began to fade, with Anastasia The Storyteller Radio moving to the fore when my/Anastasia's Beloved co-host, Jack Slattery, left the show for other priorities at the end of June, 2016.

Other program formats were experimented with, such as Beyond Gender Tyranny: The Online Course initiative for a time. However Jack's departure was a huge loss to the  momentum of the original form with his input and co-hosting of central importance.

Additionally, by the time Jack departed the unfolding presidential compaigning was already taking a toll on the small "zones of peace" mission of New Horizons to provide programs and training that can help individuals and communities overcome social and political polarization, among other things. Then with the November, 2016 election surprise of Donald Trump upsetting the Clinton campaign, we experienced an added challenge, non-partisan as we must remain as a non-profit, and simply did not know yet how best to proceed through the chaos now at hand. 

Given that New Horizons agenda, since its "new" formatting began in 2006 has always held the "overcoming of polarization" as a central objective -- and -- almost everyone we could identify was far more invested in divisiveness, after the 2016 election than otherwise, we began seeking other alternatives for utilizing our gifts, talents and overarching mission -- building and sustaining small "zones of peace."

You can see what and how our evolving process has been, up to now, to be able now to believe, at least, that we have found a clarified form for our mission, with our revitalizing New Horizons'' signature program -- the Truth Or Dare GAME, as of last September, and our recent collaboration with the Pro-Truth Pledge Movement, beginning in late April.

With all that said and done, we are now in a position to reboot our Possible Society In Motion Radio Show with a new series, To Lie Or Not To Lie. Enter New Horizons next major agenda, the Truth Or Dare Movement, with this series fully in alignment with it.

We hope the series will boost your present and future journeys through the hurtles now facing all of us as American citizens.

Truth Or Dare Movement Defined At New Horizons Annual Board Meeting

At last, yesterday afternoon the time arrived when Board Members of the New Horizons were finally able to come together for our very late-in-the-month Annual Board Meeting.

(Usually we meet mid-month in July, combining our annual meeting with a birthday celebration for ME!! This year, for the first time ever, we were unable to do this.) 

One of our topmost agenda items was to define New Horizons Truth Or Dare Movement.

Here is how it was described and voted on to put into action.

New Horizons Truth Or Dare Movement is to be established as an overarching, umbrella structure with the following primary objectives.

• Promote, produce and present New Horizons Truth or Dare GAME, all of its related educational, support and training programs and other related future endeavors;
• Present and promote Anastasia's Possible Society In Motion online To Lie Or Not To Lie Radio Show series;
• Promote and further the message and intent of the "original" Pro-Truth Pledge, as well as New Horizons "expanded" version of it through educational, pledge signing and fundraising activities.

Wish us luck as we, now, formally take up these objectives!

And, DO please join us in taking an active role in helping us generate successful outcomes – culminating destination – Truth Or Dare GAME on Capitol Hill where it seems to be most needed these days.

The forthcoming new series, not yet named, will replace the earlier intended one on the Possible Society In Motion Radio Show on how to Move Beyond Gender Tyranny and yet will include how we Move Beyond Gender Tyranny: The Online Course, as one of its main elements.

On these shows Anastasia will be drawing on her more than forty-five years experience in mental health, community development and violence prevention in the service of aiding and furthering New Horizons developing Truth or Dare Movement and our collaboration with the "original" Pro-Truth Pledge Movement.

Addressing the problems of gender tyranny will be among concerns to be addressed.  Gender Tyranny always includes lying and corruption!
