As I start on this next chapter of my writing life, the cumulative effect of the programs and projects New Horizons has been doing since the early eighties -- when we formally inaugurated the Asklepeion prison rehabilitation counter-culture community approach*, developed by my former psychiatrist mentor, Martin G. Groder, M.D.,  into what had merely been a private counseling center, remodeling it for application to a co-dependency/power addiction recovery, counter-culture treatment program -- will now become more accessible through my writings, lectures and public speaking presentations.

New Horizons "exceptional community" model is an expansion of Groder's Asklepeion model, beyond prison rehabilitation, where it began, into the mainstream, combined with the ancient teachings and present-day mentoring of the Kebzeh community approach through Murat Yagan.

What we have accomplished over many decades, based on Groder's and Murat's mentoring, guidance and support, has been meritorious. And, we have been continuously evolving better and better strategies for directing what we have back into the mainstream.

Now, with our focus, once again, on our signature program, the Truth or Dare GAME, we will further this shaping process, while I, personally, set out to carry the message of the enormous successes we've had to an expanding readership audience through my articles, online, and sometime in the future in print form.

What has been difficult for us -- in near-recent years, especially as New Horizons has struggled to proceed with its main initiative, building and sustaining Small "Zones of Peace," and its mission to overcome all forms of polarization, from the simplest one-on-one relating to the local, the national and the global, in a nation, post Trump -- is that we are now, as a citizenship, more invested in divisiveness than unity.

How can we reverse this?

We can only hope to do our best and contribute what we have and can with hopes for a better future.

I will have much to write on this also.

Anastasia (I) have struggled too, alongside my organization, especially concerned about where could I/she lead my/her truth squad, if truth had taken such a back seat in our society as to be almost an anathema!

Moving Beyond Gender Tyranny: What Does It Mean And How Do You Do It?

What does "Moving Beyond Gender Tyranny" mean and how do you do it?

Do we see gender tryanny alive and active in the Biden-Flores drama?

If so, who is it coming from? Joe Biden, the identified culprit?

Or Lucy Flores and the other women who have come forward with complaints of their personal boundaries distressingly being compromised? 

Yet revealing these at the possible expense of Joe Biden's bid for the presidency?

Are they the tyrants in so forcefully making their case against Biden?

Who has the right of way here to be most upset with this situation, especially in this era of #MeToo and "TimesUp?

These are complicated issues. The questions evoked have no easy answers.

At New Horizons we've had situations of this nature under the radar for decades, with tried and true strategies for problem solving, dating back as far as 1976!

We are eager to offer our expertise and support as solutions of great magnitude are explored -- and remedies applied.

To start off our contribution we will be offering what we can to bring forward motion through the clutter!

First off, to our way of thinking, we need to understand what “gender tyranny” means, by definition and in action. Next, we need to accept that gender tyranny is a two way street, if we truly want to put an end to it.

With male and female lanes going both ways. 

Then we need to figure out how best to keep the traffic moving forward, avoid jams and accidents along the highway.

This is a critical discussion for us to have!! I am making it a top priority!

If, as I, perhaps, might have inferred (at least I intended to) in "Joe Biden-Lucy Flores Drama Brings New Horizons Infamous "No Abuse" Rule To The Fore," Biden did not break any rules,  He is, therefore, technically not guilty of a criminal act or even a civil breach,

But, ah, the court of public opinion! 

So what does his situation offer us about gender tyranny being a two-way street, especially when he speaks up to take responsibility, as New Horizons "no abuse" demands?

And, offers to listen, respectfully?

Is this genuinely enough? 

Not at all, his critics argue!

What does this mean about things big and small, like Biden, the politician seeking a presidential bid?  About Joe Biden the private citizen, husband and father?

Big questions! 

I am standing back, again, looking at this drama, with my curious eye, trying to take in what it means for me, especially as a woman, having made one personal, sexual harassment ethics complaint and toying, presently, with how to best handle another.

What to do? What to do?

No easy answers!

If I come forward on this next one will a scandal erupt? If this is not what I want -- and -- the individual offender, though deceased, is a prominent man, what then?

If I continue to keep quiet as I have, what price will I pay?

Actually this may be the easiest of my personal questions to answer. 

I will not stay silent. The cost is too great! The liberation great for letting go of secrets long held.

One article, addressing the broader scope, published in Slate particularly caught my attention, addressing the many complexities of what we have in this new drama.

Joe Biden Is Not What Matters Here expands the issue. And, clearly, to my way thinking, fleshes out essential details for the conversation, at hand.

So, what do we have here, in terms of what may be one of the most defining issues of the Twenty-first Century, how men treat women?

Joe Biden -- Lucy Flores Drama Brings New Horizons Infamous "No Abuse" Rule To The Fore

Well, today I am getting myself all fired up to do some writing again. About things current that relate to the various initiatives New Horizons holds dear.

My new computer is beginning to become somewhat of a friend to me, rather than a mysterious stranger sitting on my office desk. 

And, enough of the chaos, regarding the Mueller Report on Russian Collusion with the Trump Administration, has settled to allow attention to other juicy dramas for ardent followers of daily headlines, such as myself, to chew on.

Now I am ready for a new round of posts, tying together, as I often do, current events and the initiatives of New Horizons. 

This next series grows out of the Biden-Flores drama, allowing me to, also, weave the threads of New Horizons' "Beyond Gender Tyranny" initiative together with Truth Or Dare as another major agenda item. 

Thus I am setting myself on track for some richly rewarding commentary, as I do now and then. 

This week our New Horizons Board Members, plus newly added invitees into our Truth Or Dare GAME, are getting ready for another GAME event, this coming Sunday. 

So, of course, with that on my mind, I couldn't be happier than to point out that what some wise folks are wanting from the Biden-Flores drama, accountability and amends rather than actual punishment, on Biden's part, mild as it is in terms of all things #MeToo, our GAME has held as a standard for decades, circa 1980s!

This article is my first attempt at beginning to detail the powerful, life-changing, relationship-changing, potentially culture-changing New Horizons strategy known as our infamous "no abuse" rule -- and -- how and why it has had so very much positive impact over the years.

My intention is to use what I am presenting here and in related article, to prompt energetic discussion on what "moving beyond gender tyranny" means to us, at New Horizons. 

If a true cultural shift, on all levels of integrity, is what YOU, as a main mover in this effort, are after, join me for discussions on gender tyranny-related subjects arising, now, out of this Biden--Flores situation.

I will soon bring the issue to my Anastasia The Storyteller Radio Show program, with a focus on New Horizons "no abuse" rule and other tried and true strategies, from our more than forty-five years of experience dealing with similar challenges.  Look for details.

The central items, here, from a New Horizons perspective are: 

1. The perameters, as laid out below, can effectively curtail abuse, even, the potential for abuse. Much that ends of up in violence, particularly domestic violence, could be intercepted, if New Horizons "no abuse" rule could become the norm in homes, families, businesses and organizations 

(Long-time coming, of course. But here is a formula with which to make a start. I began developing it, New Horizons "no abuse" rule, in 1980 as Clinical Director of a shelter for abused women. I know the terrain well!) -- and -- 

2. Offenders, especially in non-criminals, non-rule breaking situations, who set out to apologize, make amends and learn from their errors in judgement, do not get raked over the coals and abused in retaliation for their misdeeds.

Yes, complaints get voiced, heard and responded to with respect!

Yes, full accountability, as indicated in #2 above, is essential!

And, yes, errors in judgement are eligible for forgiveness! 

This is where dialogue versus debate comes in, in the creating of a more sustainable culture, even a Congress and White House that can truly look out for constituents.

The following excerpted from New Horizons Truth Or Dare GAME/Truth Squad Rules

The rule below is the GAME changer rule that has made the New Horizons Community Development Model famous, if not infamous!

No Emotional/Psychological Abuse = "Subtle Violence" of New Horizons Participants or Staff

(i.e. “subtle violence” = emotional abuse/discounting that evokes pain or discomfort. We added, April 2, 2019 -- Joe Biden's reportedly "inappropriate" contact with several women as an example of this.)

In action it goes like this...

• If anyone informs you that they “feel abused” (“discounted" or even "feeling uncomfortable" with your behavior toward them) = subtle violence”) by you, means that you must stop whatever you are doing – and –
• Discover what you are doing that “feels abusive,” “discounting” or "uncomfortable to the other person;
• Discover what you could do instead that behavior that has been identified as “feeling abusive,” “discounting” or "uncomfortable to others.
• No excuses or debates -- just do it!!

Question: What's your guess as to how and why New Horizons "no abuse" rule has had such impact as to make it a GAME changer?

Answer: Because in our GAME, we honor the subjective emotions of all participants, without judgement and without a need to justify one's emotions or perceptions. 

No one need prove whether or not a certain behavior etc. is, in fact, truly/factually abuse, by any given outside standards. 

All that is necessary is for a person to identify that they are "feeling" abused, unsafe, discounted or "uncomfortable etc., in our GAME, to warrant an adjustment on the part of another/others to ensure that comfort and safety for all is maintained.

Use our rule in your home or work and prepare for an adventure!!!

If you are peace oriented, don't you wish the whole world could act on this principle/practice?

This is the kind of role modeling the New Horizons Board Of Directors is urging and, personally, modeling through the skill development and support of our "new" Truth Or Dare GAME.

Out of a horrendous #MeToo-based experience, in 2018, involving the Ethics Committee of the International Transactional Analysis Association, ANASTASIA CAME OUT A WINNER, WHICH IS WHAT SHE WAS ALWAYS AFTER MOST, in spite of the obstructions encountered!!.

Never doubt that "truth-telling"
is anything but  heavy lifting.

With a very specific INTENTIONAL approach that Anastasia, ME, teaches through her Exploring Your Dark Side: The Adventure Of A Lifetime methodology, applied to herself, entailing confronting the Dark Side of oneself as well as its presence in others, to see her through the obstacles she encountered, Anastasia came through them greatly changed in ways she is still attempting to put into words. 

(Nancy Pelosi is INTENTIONAL. She demonstrates the benefits of this in her adeptness and in her steadfastness in confronting the Dark Side in Donald Trump. 

The key, as I see it, is in her knowing how to be systematic and diplomatic in her dealings with Trump's Dark Side, without being either overly aggressive or, conversely, too passive. 

From my perspective this comes of Pelosi knowing where she is going in these deailings because she knows how the Dark Side operates in self and others, a true gift. You, too, can learn to be effective in this way, if it appeals to you. Anastasia made a fully legitimate, well-documented Ethics Complaint for sexual harassment and abuse of power by her psychiatrist mentor, Martin G. Groder, M.D. The price exacted of her in breaking a #MeToo-related silence, pitted her against the manipulations and power abuses of the Ethics Committee of the International Transactional Analysis Association.

Beginning, informally, in December, 2017, continuing up until almost one year later, after enduring continuous dismissals from that organization, a mental health-oriented organization in which her membership dated back to 1973, Anastasia came to realize that there had been an enormous price paid for breaking the silence of a #MeToo-type series of encounters she had buried for more than twenty-five years.  

However, with Anastasia’s determination to see her Ethics Complaint appropriately resolved, she found herself willing to pay the price, discovering in the process, even more importantly, how “Truth-Telling Sets Us Free.”

This is role modeling to which it is worthwhile paying attention.
