Breaking News: New Horizons To Redefine Priorities

Effective immediately!!

Tuesday, April 30, 2019 -- We added one new item to our Truth Or Dare Movement agenda. Check it out: The Pro-Truth Pledge.

in the service of supporting , Executive Director, Anastasia Rosen-Jones, with her expanding publishing efforts on Medium and through a variety of other outlets, both online and in print, all New Horizons projects and programs are to now be put on hold, with the exception of New Horizons Truth Or Dare GAME and Truth or Dare GAME support groups.

(Also see: Anastasia The Storyteller article, "Another New Book Into Progress Popped Up In Me Today.")

All current programs, projects and initiatives created, post Trump's presidential election, will be affected.

This will include, but is not limited to...
Look for these to resume or take on new forms as Anastasia’s publishing projects move to the fore.

As I start on this next chapter of my writing life, the cumulative effect of the programs and projects New Horizons has been doing since the early eighties -- when we formally inaugurated the Asklepeion prison rehabilitation counter-culture community approach*, developed by my former psychiatrist mentor, Martin G. Groder, M.D.,  into what had merely been a private counseling center, remodeling it for application to a co-dependency/power addiction recovery, counter-culture treatment program -- will now become more accessible through my writings, lectures and public speaking presentations.

* Scroll down on this wikipedia article to the section on "therapeutic communities -- U.S.". New Horizons "exceptional community" model is an expansion of Groder's Asklepeion model, beyond prison rehabilitation, where it began, into the mainstream, combined with the ancient teachings and present-day mentoring of the Kebzeh community approach through Murat Yagan.

What we have accomplished over many decades, based on Groder's and Murat's mentoring, guidance and support, has been meritorious. And, we have been continuously evolving better and better strategies for directing what we have back into the mainstream.

Now, with our focus, once again, on our signature program, the Truth or Dare GAME, we will further this shaping process, while I, personally, set out to carry the message of the enormous successes we've had to an expanding readership audience through my articles, online, and sometime in the future in print form.

What has been difficult for us -- in near-recent years, especially as New Horizons has struggled to proceed with its main initiative, building and sustaining Small "Zones of Peace," and its mission to overcome all forms of polarization, from the simplest one-on-one relating to the local, the national and the global, in a nation, post Trump -- is that we are now, as a citizenship, more invested in divisiveness than unity.

How can we reverse this?

We can only hope to do our best and contribute what we have and can with hopes for a better future.

I will have much to write on this also.

Anastasia (I) have struggled too, alongside my organization, especially concerned about where could I/she lead my/her truth squad, if truth had taken such a back seat in our society as to be almost an anathema!

Please do wish us luck!

This may be the most challenging step we have ever taken, to date.

We thank you for your kind and continued support.

New Horizons Annual Board Meeting To Convene On Sunday

Who would have thought fate would have led us here?

And where was “there” and, now, where is our “here,” you might wonder?

“Here” is the present situation, with New Horizons’ Beyond Gender Tyranny movement, related projects and programs, looking to be, not only our present, but central to our future,  as far as we can see.

And this, alongside the personal upheaval related to the Ethics Complaint, submitted, May 13, by our Founder and Executive Director, Anastasia Rosen-Jones. The complaint was tendered to the Ethics Committee of the International Transactional Analysis Association, Anastasia’s primary professional association of forty-five years.

Already the process of working through the issues of the complaint, related to charges of sexual harassment and power abuse on the part of one of Anastasia’s long term mentors, is taking her into uncharted territory, personally and professionally.

Such as she has never before seen or experienced!

How the procedures of this intense healing and reconciliation effort will impact the day-to-day operations of New Horizons is anybody’s guess, at this time; much too soon in the unfolding process to determine.

At New Horizons, up against this backdrop, between “then” and “now” much, of enormous proportions, has occurred beyond these personal happening of Anastasia’s.

(Note added July 12: At the center of these events is the "how" we, as a working board of directors, managed to navigate a brewing polarization among ourselves and re-route it into the synergistic harmony that has uniquely marked the culture of our board since its inception in 1995.

We are truly "walking our talk." I will delineate some of how we lived out this motto and went from a threatening polarization to get ourselves back in sync in some of the text I will be writing for this summary of events of our past year.

We, the members of New Horizons Board of Directors hope you will understand our process and, thus, our journey to overcome polarization with so much appreciation that you will want some of "IT" for yourselves and invite us to be your guide in achieving the same in whatever venue is of central importance to you in your life.

Check out our link on "Exceptional Community Building" to read a selection of articles that demonstrate the challenges we were facing, among ourselves, last year at this time, and how we pulled ourselves through to get ourselves back to synergy.)

Starting below is a summary of some of our key transitioning events of the past year, as the New Horizons Board Of Directors prepares, now, for its annual board meeting, scheduled for this coming Sunday, July 15.

One of the most important resolutions of New Horizons 2017 Annual Board Meeting, was that Anastasia, our “best kept secret,” was to, now, emerge out of her hidey hole where she had kept her past professional experiences and expertise mainly behind closed doors. By this time last year, however, that space had grown too confining for her – and -- a bit limiting in terms of how the future of New Horizons was to be shaped.

As we, at New Horizons, are always a part of the whole organism of our local area, our region, our nation and the world, intent on serving these various spheres, “Thinking globally, acting locally,” is one of our main guiding principles.

And – given that these realms were being turned upside down, mostly brought about by the social and political mayhem, following the 2016 presidential election, as we saw it, Anastasia, in keeping with that which she has believed to be her destiny, was feeling more and more called to, somehow, make her return to the D.C. fast track that had been her initiation into adulthood  -- and – to which she has always had strong kinship and allegiance.

This situation, we realized, as we approached last year’s board meeting agenda, had the potential for creating a conflict of interest situation within our organization, with Anastasia heading it. Thus we began, seriously, considering a separation between New Horizons and Anastasia.

Because we, by mandate of our 501 C 3 status, are bound to remain apolitical, and have been doing our best to remain so – and – although we have been highly impacted upon by the results of the last presidential election, we were more than aware that maintaining that dictate seemed to be at odds with Anastasia’s personal and professional goals.

Thus, at last year’s board meeting, our main resolution, to be implemented immediately following it, was to formally announce the separating of New Horizons and Anastasia. We would do this, initially with a press release announcing our plan.

You can read that press release here.

But how, in actuality, were we to separate the two became our next challenge.

After all, it was Anastasia who gave birth to New Horizons. And, that many years ago, with our forerunner, Anastasia’s private psychotherapy practice, dating back to 1973!

A recap of New Horizons transitioning events, paralleling all that was going on with us, beyond us and in the world around us, is in order. I will offer this review in readable portions, in order to assist you, our loyal readers, in having a glimpse of what has been going on behind the scenes at New Horizons and how that these happenings are shaping what you are and will be getting from us, from here forth.

I begin with New Horizons Annual Board Meeting of 2017. One of the most important resolutions of that meeting, as I have stated, was that we announced the biggest shift we have ever had -- New Horizons “best kept secret,” the life and world, both personal and professional of our Founder and Executive Director, M. Anastasia Rosen-Jones, would no longer be hidden away.

For Anastasia coming out of her long held storage chest, maybe a genie’s bottle is more like it, into high public visibility (how high we could only imagine) was to be no small task. She had done it before, becoming an overnight entrepreneurial celebrity and hadn't much liked it!

To be continued with “When The Personal Becomes Political And The Political Personal.”

Look for details on future postings for the extended report.

New Horizons News Update!

Would you believe --- simply focusing on my "tranquility diet" has now gotten New Horizons to being in the planning stages with some awesome “coming attractions,” not by the urgency, trying hard and workaholism that often dominated my earlier days. Rather by creating day-to-day tranquility! I am getting to love it!

So, beginning yesterday, under the power of the Eclipse, New Horizons commenced to create a "storytelling" project to help our overall community building mission, via New Horizons-type programs, for next year. StoryCorps and possibly the Frederick County Public Library will be our initial partners (the latter item is still being discussed); this, in spite of the fact that I got stung by a hornet the hour leading up to the time to focus on that fast moving Eclipse.

Oh my, having stepped on a hornet, was I ever in pain all through that time and well beyond until morning.

Still, that Eclipse seems to have brought us, New Horizons and myself, new beginnings of a marvelous type.

Why not?

Yesterday was also the day of the New Moon!

In the meantime, as our more extended project develops, we are now amping up to develop an updated storytelling track, correlating with our Coffee House Conversations and Possible Society, Possible Human Study, our Counterculture Community Development and Making Violence Obsolete projects, all rolled into one, new updated effort.

So, we are feeling confident, thinking we are, now, beginning to find our new path, while trying to stay sane in this insane world.

Although we don’t yet know quite how we will proceed, we do know that storytelling as a pathway to peace and the ideals of leaning in and dialogue rather than debate will be central tenets of whatever it is we are about to create. Collecting stories of people’s lives as they are, now, living through these turbulent times, in this momentous time in history, will also be a dominant theme.

If you would like to contribute your ideas to help us shape this project, please let us hear from you. Either by posting a comment here or by writing me, directly, at SuperSleuthDSW@aol.com

Thanks so much for your continued support that helps keep us strong and hopeful during these turbulent times.

Please send prayers and other good wishes while we Imagine what we can become.

With gratitude from
Anastasia and the New Horizons Support Network, Inc. Board of Directors

Behind The Scenes of Making Violence Obsolete

Your guide to exploring some of the basic tools New Horizons utilizes to develop strategies for “making violence obsolete” and “effectively" building small “zones of peace.”

Do you know that the “Making Violence Obsolete” project, sponsored by New Horizons Small “Zones of Peace” Project has more than forty-five years of training, development and practical application experience and expertise behind it?

The latter, the expertise alone, is based on mentors and trainers who have guided us with a knowledge and experience base that goes back as far as 26,000 years. You can read about our primary mentors, Martin G. Groder, M.D. and Murat Yagan at the links posted here.

Check them out!!

For the more recent developments and applications of these many resources, visit my, Anastasia’s, two other blog sites; Anastasia The Storyteller and Exploring Your Dark Side: The Adventure of A Lifetime.

And be sure to take advantage of the learning tools offered on all three of our blog sites by utilizing the various inventories and page links to extended articles  The two most important of these are: the “Where Is Your Compassionate Warrior Hiding?”  inventory and the Spectrum of Love inventory.

The importance of these two, as we weave them together, has to do with their relevance to the following premise.

Our Premise is this --

Violence “could” become obsolete, “someday”, if we start, now, doing more and more of the right things and, together, stop doing the “wrong” ones!”

The “Compassionate Warrior” inventory helps us identify personal traits that lead us down the path of “what not to do” while the “Spectrum of Love” inventory helps us identify what we need to be doing instead. We all have strengths and weaknesses that both of these spotlight. The challenge lies in what we decide to do about these.

Other teaching/learning tools presented on our blog sites are as follows:
Stories from and about Anastasia

Truly Beaut-i-full And Impactful!

The agenda for last Saturday’s “community gathering” was to introduce New Horizons’ new project, the “Counterculture Community Development Experiment” to participants and the “Principles” that will foster its success.

With just that one day at hand to try out the template now being designed for the project by our board of directors, having “Making Violence Obsolete” as its centerfold, and only a small core group of participants for this initial run through, the impact of what we accomplished in just a few hours still left no doubt in my mind that we have now made a beautiful and impactful beginning.
Bravo! And congratulations to “US” for the take off of this exciting next project.

A “beautiful” set of Power Point slide handouts -- (if I do say so myself as I am the one that created them) -- provided participants with a well-delineated  overview of what we are intent on bringing into widespread application -- a movement perhaps might even emerge from our intention; doing our part to help “make violence obsolete,” G-d willing and the creek don’t rise. These prompted enthusiastic discussion and lively interactions to drive home our objectives.

The most prominent aspect of our conversations, from my perspective, was the indepth consideration of how exactly -- as Margaret Mead suggested -- “a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world” (i.e. in New Horizons lingo, “make violence obsolete.”).

I believe most of those present were contemplating the answer to that question I was certain, at least as much as basic formulae go and their applications, I had been learning how to achieve, if only, for more than forty years already; by living "it" not merely thinking about it.

And, of course, there was also the potluck and the camaraderie of hangin’ out on one of our last nice, but a bit warmer than we like, end of August days.

A significant part of the answer I am inclined to stress is -- very slowly and step-by-step!   As evidenced by the “takeaways” participants identified as their next action steps in line with our stated agenda, I could see they were already begin to consider that direction too; the pathway to awe -- and -- possibly grant me the privelege of being their guide.

Long time coming!

The single most agreed upon, by a good portion of the group, of the various angles presented tat day was to devote serious, personal attention to altering the following, day-to-day characteristics of polarization in themselves.
  • Emotional barriers;
  • Defensiveness;
  • Communication breakdown;
  • Seeing the “other” as an enemy;
  • Fear, anger, blame, criticism, power struggles;
  • Conflict, withdrawal, avoidance, collusion, secrets, aggression, bullying and violence.
Nary a participant could attest to being free of each and everyone of these.  So they pledged to begin there.

How about you?  What are your next steps to help "make violence obsolete"?

Gandhi’s Gift

Did you ever stop to wonder how New Horizons came to call its main project the Small “Zones of Peace” Project?  Or what that name means to me/us"

Here’s the back story.

When I was blind (and recovering from being blind, 1998 –2006) I had left behind a mess of papers.

Imagine waking up one morning and not being able to see; all of a sudden!

Imagine that event, also, being in the midst of having a book publishing deadline that you had been working on for ten very long years!
(Writing three books, not just one under the demands of one book contract – and – one contract monetary advance.)

You, too, might have had thousands – and I mean thousands – of pages strewn all over your living room as I did at the time!

Well – from seeing, living relatively normally and writing books under deadline you, too, might have had a mess that day as did I! And, of course, it couldn’t all organize and file itself.

Nonetheless, over the next years (1998 – 2006) I had a picture in my mind of a framed quote by Gandhi that was hanging or lying somewhere in my house. And, I had, thus, an image of the words on it that kept playing in my mind.

Those words meant a lot to me, especially after 9/11.

When, at last, after seven eye surgeries I had regained my eyesight and was making headway healing from the emotional trauma of the experience, I started unpacking and sorting and filing those papers that had, in the interim, piled up on top of one another, again and again.

And, somehow, as a sighted life began to take root in me I wanted to find those framed words of Gandhi’s. Which I did by which time I had gotten around to thinking about what I wanted to do with my new life -- Gandhi’swords were “IT!”

I wanted to be a builder of small “zones of peace.”

Of course by this time I had gotten to know and “see” a whole advanced way of doing that. Thanks to the guidance and teachings of Murat Yagan! This is how New Horizons came to call the work I/we would do next -- the New Horizons Small “Zones of Peace” Project.

That’s the story!

So now you keep watching and “see” what we/New Horizons is going to do next – and next – and next some more as that vision I/we held when I could not see, physically, grows with these words of Gandhi to inspire us.
We do best to begin by carving out territories or zones of peace in our personal relations where violence and deceit won’t be used. Mahatma Gandhi
Also, perhaps in 2015 you will “see” how you can some ways in which to join us on our mission to build –

Small “Zones of Peace”

Happy New Year, 2015!

Behind The Scenes

There is, once again, so much going on behind the scenes these days at New Horizons. You could call it rehearsing. You could call it germination time. You could call it a time for pausing while things beyond our frail powers take shape.

Whatever it is to be called, my not posting of four articles to this site last month as I have pledged to do each and every month, was a dereliction on that score.

So I will try in this new month to make up for the lack.

Look for –
  • Program announcements for our Possible Society In Motion Radio Show;
  • Updates on our pending “Police, Politics And The Lean In Legacy” Project;
  • Updates on preliminary findings from our Possible Human, Possible Society Study;
  • News about how you can get involved in our various programs, projects and our study;
  • And, coming soon, how you can support these rich undertakings at New Horizons.

Wishing you a safe and happy labor-less Labor Day!

Anastasia and the New Horizons Support Network Board of Directors

Here you will find stories of the personal and professional adventures of New Horizons’ Executive Director.

And her “vision” behind the New Horizons Small “Zones of Peace” Project, notably reflecting Anastasia’s journey from blindness to recovery.

I Am Changing, We (New Horizons) Are Changing. Are You Changing Too?

Jack and I presented a wonderful radio show episode, “The Times They Are A-Changing” on Thursday, May 15. Be sure to check it out if you have not already.

I, admittedly, was almost shaken by our exchange on-air, even more so by our discussion forum after, on the conference call. So much that I felt prompted to contact several loyal supporters, requesting that they give me feedback on the show. I was that much in need of checking out my perceptions.  I never did quite get what I was after.

Oh, well. The perceptual gap might be reconciled by checking out various theories about it. But who has time these days to bother over such minutiae?
Oh, dear!

Like the White Rabbit of Alice In Wonderland, most of us are feeling perpetually as if we are “late, late” for the next thing, whatever that is. No doubt about it, we must run off, quickly, trying to catch up with something.

I drew attention to the idea of slowing down in my “Overcoming The Polarization of Politics Address” presented at Hood College, not long after Obama’s second presidential victory.

Emphasizing a quote from  Mary Pipher in her book, Writing To Change The World
“The two most radical things you can do in America are to slow down and talk to one another.”
I made the assumption that this suggestion meant, also, listening to one another. And, I might add, listening, carefully.

Each time Jack and I do one of our Possible Society In Motion programs, we embark upon this “radical” endeavor; slowing down and talking and listening to one another. The effort has seemed to bear fruit, especially, since my “Lean In Legacy Template” was introduced, becoming the center piece of the show. The intentionality of this formula as an antidote by which one can offset polarization, socially, culturally or politically, comes clearer to me, program by program.

As a “teaching series,” we now have a a specific framework for an emerging curriculum for the program. And, in the “doing” we are slowing down and listening and talking to one another, along with whoever joins us. By taking time to be with one another in this way, we are establishing a venue for a purposeful, yet informal discussion, heightening our consciousness, individually and collectively. Then we carry the intention forth into the conference call portion of our program that follows.

We are doing the same, digging even deeper within ourselves and one another, in our new Sohbet/study group. As a result, our discussion forums are, even now, hinting at the potential for our offering to reach the peak of the Mountain of Awe, that magical place where each and every one present can feel the beautifully, compelling sense of synergy that becomes the foundation for collective unity.

The intimation is there, perhaps most noticeably to me, having had decades of experience in creating the conditions for transformation within sustainable communities.

I am delightfully amazed that the group of guests and participants New Horizons has drawn together, most of whom have never even met one another, face-to-face, with only a telephone call connecting us, has been able to achieve this.

Our Possible Society In Motion Radio Show is now growing a group of strangers into a unique and wonderful, community discussion forum. We are becoming that “radical” venture – and will do so more and more as we gain experience with our project.

Apparently, it was the doing of this on-air and on a conference call that frightened me. I think it was the expansiveness, especially in a public forum of my “doing” that scared me so. I’d been so long, only imagining the experience of creating a forum for heightened and shared consciousness that when it came right up close, I wondered if something might not be wrong. As if I might get in trouble, somehow, for talking about, doing and “being” in an authentically personal and collective transformation mode, in public.

Nonetheless, in spite of my fear, I see that I am changing and New Horizons is changing too in the ways for which we’ve been striving.

Are you changing too?

If you are, how about sharing your adventure with us by updating your Possible Human, Possible Society Study interview. Or, perhaps, you might like to be a guest on our radio show.

Please feel free to contact me, Anastasia, by email (zonesofpeacenh@aol.com) or cell: 240.409.5347,

However, we can find pathways to "lean in" towards one another can only up the abundance we are experiencing.

Take a moment to consider how you might join us, as we become increasingly interactive with real people in real time.

We will even be making mistakes, publicly, as we learn and grow. You can join us in that too!

Note: In case you missed this past week’s The Possible Society In Motion Radio Show, we actually were not on-air as scheduled for May 29 due to a scheduling snag. But we will be back, again, in two weeks on Thursday, June 12 at our regularly scheduled bi-weekly time.

The Chosen

A few months back, (late October, to be specific), New Horizons did its first, official assessment of the data gathered, to date, from our Possible Human, Possible Society Study. In a press release, dated October 24, 2013, we announced our preliminary findings.

The release headlined the following –

Most noteworthy of the trends identified was the  following --

1.   Better than 90% of interviewees have no significant relationships beyond their like-minded groups. (i.e. less than 10% d0.)
2.   Better than 90% of interviewees are unmotivated to interact with others beyond these like-minded groups.
This is serious data, as far as New Horizons is concerned. And, no small challenge to be heeded. As I stated, however, in that press release,
“These trends could be reversed by the simplest, most direct efforts.”
Since the release of these findings, New Horizons has kept an open mind to identifying what we could do next to help reverse these trends.

Other than our immediate current agendas, of primary importance, which include –
  •  Communication and outreach through our Possible Society In Motion Radio Show and the blog articles on this site;
  • The Possible Human, Possible Society Study;
  •  The ongoing, remodeling of our Harpers Ferry Retreat Center to ready it for trainings and retreats.
.. what else could we contribute?
At the time of the press release, we were open, colloquially speaking, to whatever guidance we would find – and -- from wherever it would come, as to our next steps. We had learned, through experience, to trust unknown and mysterious forces to be our guiding light.
Not long after this, we were informed that our Beloved mentor, Murat Yagan, was seriously ill. Murat passed away on December 19, 2013.
This is a game changer for all that New Horizons is grounded in and for all that it seeks to contribute of our highest ideals. Murat has been our guiding light for many years. And, will continue to be.
Through Murat, New Horizons came to discover a greater vision (1999 – 2013) for the utilization of its unique community development capabilities. That vision, still in its embryonic unfolding, is represented, today, through our various projects and programs as presented throughout this blog site. Most importantly, Murat brought us to an expanded consciousness of how to create and sustain small communities built upon principles of  cooperation and concern for all, even brotherly/sisterly love.
Out of the monumental shifting, now taking place as a result of Murat’s passing, we, at New Horizons, will be developing new clarity in the months and years to come about how our various initiatives can best serve our community, locally and globally.
Central to this unfolding is the intention to make known the treasures of the inheritance Murat bestowed upon us.  And, the concern for all this responsibility entails.
Out of our present contemplations, honoring Murat, one new project has already emerged.

To launch this project, please note the following:

This project will seek to find those who are already doing their optimum to model, teach and guide what it means to be "all for one and one for all" as Murat guided his students to do. Our intention will be to introduce to this select group, perspectives and skills that can elevate what these people are already doing to more refined levels; head and heart and through practical applications.

In the coming weeks and months, New Horizons will seek, through the process of our Possible Human, Possible Society Study, to identify those in the 10% category who have demonstrated, through their actions and activities, values and attitudes, as we know them, to be the most likely to benefit and carry forth what Murat bestowed upon us to pass on to others.

Between ten to twenty study interviewees, of the less than 10%, thus far identified in the above study data, will be chosen to participate in a special introduction to our coming Mountain of Awe Guided-Climbing Tours, built as they are upon community development principles and skills way beyond the ordinary; the extraordinary.

Look for additional details and information regarding our unfolding plans and programs. And, find out more about our ….

…as New Horizons continues to look to Murat for the legacy we have had bestowed upon us to pass on to others.
